Worlds Greatest Sandwich

Have you ever had the Worlds Greatest Sandwich? Well, this recipe which was featured in the movie “Spanglish” with Adam Sandler, is just that. I found the video and thought I'd share it with you.

I will definitely try it out on my husband. He loves BLT's and I know he'll enjoy this one. Why don't you try it as well then leave a comment to let us know how you liked it. I would try it, but I can't eat bacon. (I may try it with a bit of pan-fried turkey or chicken breast – I'll let you know.)

Worlds Greatest Sandwich

Adam Sandler 2024 - Elena Ternovaja
World's Greatest Sandwich

How do you make the Worlds Greatest Sandwich? First, we need to gather all of our ingredients.

Step 1: Bacon Bliss

  • Grab those thick slices of bacon and lay them in a cold skillet. Turn the heat up to medium and let them sizzle away.
  • Watch the magic happen as they crisp up, turning a beautiful golden brown. Ah, the delightful aroma of bacon cooking! Who could ever resist that. Hopefully it doesn't wake everyone else up, especially if you're not ready to share...
  • Once your slices are crispy and perfect, transfer the bacon to a paper towel to drain off the excess grease. Set aside and try not to nibble on too many pieces or else you won't have enough for your sandwich.

Step 2: Cheese, Please!

  • Take one slice of that glorious Pain de Campagne and lay the Monterey Jack cheese slices on top.
  • Pop it into a toaster oven or under a broiler. Keep an eye on it, though. You want your cheese to melt into gooey perfection. Try not to get lost in a cheese daydream, which is so easy to do if you don't focus!

Step 3: Mayo Magic

  • On the other slice of toasted bread, spread a generous tablespoon of mayonnaise. Coat it all the way to the edges. And if you need a little more, don't be afraid to dip into that jar again.

Step 4: Pile It Up

  • Start stacking: first lay down the crispy bacon, then layer fresh tomato slices on top. I always sprinkle a little pepper on my tomatoes, but that's up to you.
  • Add on the butter lettuce leaves next to crown this mouthwatering creation.

Step 5: Egg-citing Finale

  • In a nonstick skillet, melt a teaspoon of butter over medium heat. Watch the butter so it doesn't burn.
  • Crack an egg into the skillet and fry until the white is set but the yolk is still runny (trust us, the runny yolk is the golden ticket).
  • Carefully flip the egg for just a moment to seal the deal.

Step 6: The Grand Assembly

  • Gently slide the fried egg onto the lettuce. This is the crowning glory (it is golden, right?)
  • And lastly, take the toast with melted cheese and place it cheese-side down on top of the egg. Congratulations, you’ve built a sandwich masterpiece!

Step 7: The Glorious Cut

  • What's next? Prepare to eat it of course. Place the sandwich on a plate and with a sharp knife, carefully cut it in half. Watch as the yolk oozes down, making it look like a sandwich from a dream.

Step 8: Enjoy!

  • Dig in and relish every delicious bite of this late-night sandwich. After all of the prep and waiting for everything to cook, you’ve definitely earned it!

Bon appétit!

This combination of ingredients makes one mouth-watering late-night sandwich. Happy munching!

Ready for the recipe? If you're not, I really have to question the fact that you are indeed a true sandwich lover.

Pain de Campagne - Rustic Country Loaf

Late Night BLT Sandwich with Fried Egg & Cheese

Ingredients:

3 to 4 thick slices bacon
2 slices Monterey Jack Cheese
2 slices Pain de Campagne (rustic country loaf), toasted
1 Tablespoon mayonnaise
4 slices tomato
2 leaves butter lettuce
1 teaspoon butter
1 egg

  1. Cook the bacon until crisp, drain on paper towels and set aside.
  2. Place the slices of cheese on one slice of the toasted bread and place in a toaster oven or under a broiler to melt the cheese.
  3. Spread the other slice of toast with the mayonnaise, top with the cooked bacon, the sliced tomato, and the lettuce.
  4. In a nonstick skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Fry the egg, turning over briefly when the bottom is set (keep the yolk runny!)
  5. Slide the finished egg on top of the lettuce. Top with the other slice of toast, melted cheese side down. Place the sandwich on a plate and slice in half, letting the yolk run down the sandwich.
  6. Makes one late night sandwich.
