Mango Spinach Smoothie

I think this Mango Spinach Smoothie is just what the doctor ordered..., Dr. Oz that is. It tastes delicious, (yes - even with the spinach), but it's also good for your eyes. Mangoes are my favorite fruit of all time.

When we were little, my grandmother would send boxes of them to Ohio from Florida. My father would peel them and cut them up for us. I still remember the sticky, sweet, juicy, orange-colored flesh of the mangoes...., soo good. One of my most vivid childhood memories. Yum!

Health Boost in a Glass: Mango Spinach Smoothie

Have you been looking for a delicious and nutritious way to start your day or refuel after a workout? Look no further than this Mango Spinach Smoothie. This vibrant green concoction is not only pleasing to look at, but it's also packed with nutrients that support your overall health. Let's take a closer look at the benefits of each ingredient and why this smoothie is an optimal choice for your diet.

Bowl of spinach

First up, we have the base of our smoothie: fresh spinach. Spinach is a powerhouse of nutrients. It's rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as iron, calcium, and magnesium. These nutrients are essential for maintaining healthy skin, bones, and immune function.

Spinach also contains antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin, which are known to promote eye health by reducing the risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). According to Dr. OZ, combining spinach with mango increases the body's ability to absorb these antioxidants, making this smoothie an excellent choice for eye health.

Bunch of bananas

Next, let's talk about bananas. Frozen bananas add a creamy texture to the smoothie, making it feel indulgent without the need for ice cream or heavy cream - great if you are on a plant-based diet. Bananas are a good source of potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure as well as supports heart health. They also provide natural sweetness and a quick energy boost, thanks to their carbohydrate content. And bananas are rich in dietary fiber, which aids in digestion and keeps you feeling fuller longer.

Whole mango and cut mango

Mangoes are the star fruit of this delicious smoothie, and of course, I'm not biased. Not only do they add a tropical flavor, but they are also packed with vitamins A and C, both of which are powerful antioxidants.

Vitamin A is essential for maintaining healthy vision, while vitamin C boosts your immune system and helps in collagen production, promoting healthy skin. Mangoes also contain enzymes that aid in digestion, making them a perfect addition to this smoothie. Plus, they taste sooo, good!! I think I may have said that already...

Next, we have almonds. They may seem like a small addition, but they pack a punch when it comes to nutrition. These nuts are a good source of healthy fats, protein, and fiber. They also provide vitamin E, which is another antioxidant that supports skin health and protects your cells from damage. Adding almonds to your smoothie not only enhances its nutritional profile but also gives it a slightly nutty flavor.

Rice Milk

When it comes to the liquid base, you have a choice between soy milk and rice milk. Both options are dairy-free, making them suitable for those who are lactose intolerant or following a vegan or plant-based diet.

Soy milk is rich in protein, iron, and calcium, while rice milk is a good alternative for those with soy allergies. Both types of milk are typically fortified with vitamins and minerals, making them nutritious choices for your smoothie.

Plain yogurt

Finally, we have fat-free vanilla yogurt. This ingredient adds creaminess and a subtle sweetness to the smoothie, while also providing protein and calcium. Yogurt is also a source of probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that support gut health. A healthy gut is essential for overall well-being, as it aids in digestion and helps the body absorb nutrients more efficiently.

Putting all these ingredients together will create a smoothie that's not only delicious (thanks to the mangos), but also incredibly nutritious. Each sip provides a burst of flavor, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and healthy fats that support various aspects of your health.

The combination of spinach and mango enhances the absorption of antioxidants, which can help protect your eyes and reduce the risk of cataracts and AMD - who knew! The fiber from the banana and almonds aids in digestion and keeps you feeling full, while the protein and probiotics from the yogurt support muscle repair and gut health.

Blender with mango spinach smoothie

In addition to all of its health benefits, this Mango Spinach Smoothie is so incredibly easy to make. Simply blend all the ingredients together until smooth, and you have a tasty, nutrient-packed beverage ready to enjoy. It's perfect for a quick breakfast, a post-workout snack, or a refreshing treat on a hot day.
