The Sandwich Glossary U-V gives you words and terms that have to do with this perfect, portable meal. It can be as simple or as complex as you like. You can take it to work for lunch or eat it for breakfast or dinner.

The list below contains words we have found so far that begin with U or V. You can add to the list as well. We've added a form below and you can add a term and the definition of a word that we haven't listed.

It would be really great if our international visitors could add words that relate as well. Pretty soon we'll have a great resource.

  • Schnitzel Sandwich - (Germany/Austria) A sandwich made with breaded and fried schnitzel, typically pork or veal, served on a roll or bread.
  • Shawarma - (Middle East) A sandwich made with thinly sliced marinated meat, usually lamb, chicken, or beef, served in pita or flatbread with vegetables and sauces.
  • Sloppy Joe - (USA) A sandwich made with ground beef cooked in a tangy tomato-based sauce, served on a hamburger bun.
  • Smørrebrød - (Denmark) An open-faced sandwich typically served on rye bread with various toppings like fish, meats, and cheese.
  • Souvlaki Wrap - (Greece) A sandwich made with grilled skewered meat, usually pork or chicken, served in pita bread with vegetables and tzatziki sauce.
  • Spiedie - (USA) A sandwich from New York made with marinated cubes of meat, usually chicken, lamb, or beef, grilled and served in Italian bread or a sub roll.
  • Steak Sandwich - (Various) A sandwich made with slices of cooked steak, often served with onions, peppers, and cheese on a roll or bread.
  • Submarine Sandwich - (USA) Also known as a sub, hoagie, or grinder, a long sandwich filled with a variety of meats, cheeses, vegetables, and condiments.

  • Tamago Sando - (Japan) A Japanese egg salad sandwich made with soft, fluffy bread and a creamy egg filling.
  • Tartine - (France) An open-faced sandwich, typically served with various toppings like cheese, meats, and vegetables on a slice of bread.
  • Tea Sandwich - (UK) A small, delicate sandwich often served during afternoon tea, filled with ingredients like cucumber, egg salad, or smoked salmon.
  • Tempeh Sandwich - (Indonesia) A vegetarian sandwich made with tempeh, a fermented soybean cake, often served with vegetables and sauces in bread or a roll.
  • Tikka Sandwich - (India) A sandwich made with chicken tikka or paneer tikka, often served with chutney and vegetables in bread or a roll.
  • Toast Skagen - (Sweden) An open-faced sandwich made with shrimp salad, often served on toasted bread with dill and lemon.
  • Torta - (Mexico) A Mexican sandwich made with a variety of fillings, such as meats, cheese, and avocado, served on a roll called a bolillo or telera.
  • Turkey Club - (USA) A triple-decker sandwich made with turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise, served on toasted bread.
