Peanut Butter Banana Dog

The Delightful Peanut Butter Banana Dog: A Kid's Favorite Treat

What's a Banana Dog anyway?

Do your kids love hotdogs?

Do they love peanut butter and banana sandwiches?

Well, why not combine the two. Take their favorite hotdog buns, add peanut butter, and a banana, and you've got yourself a peanut butter banana dog.

Peanut Butter Banana Dog
  • For each sandwich:
  • 1 hotdog bun
  • Peanut butter
  • 1 small banana, peeled (or large banana, peeled and cut in half to fit bun)
  • 1 tsp strawberry jam (optional)
  • 1 T chopped apples (optional)

Leave bun as is or lightly toast according to your little one's (or your) preference.

Spread with peanut butter on both sides.

Place banana in bun.

If using the jam, spread a line of jam on banana – just like you would ketchup.

If using apples, sprinkle them on top of banana and jam – like you would cheese or onions.

Serving: 1

This is a great summer meal for the times when you don't want to cook. (Especially during heat waves). Add a cold, pineapple yogurt smoothie, and some cucumber chips and you have a delicious summer meal. I think I know what I'm giving my granddaughter for lunch tomorrow. And I just my join her.

More Versions of the Peanut Butter Banana Dog

This is a whimsical twist on the classic sandwich that kids are sure to love. Made with a whole banana nestled in a long bun, this treat is slathered with creamy peanut butter and topped with a squeeze of jam. It's not only a fun and easy snack, but it also brings a burst of flavor and a smile to every child's face, (and I'm sure, on the faces of many adults as well).

What makes this sandwich so special for kids is the combination of familiar and favorite ingredients in an unexpected form. The hotdog bun adds an element of surprise and excitement to snack time. A good thing for your picky eaters.

Plus, the sweetness of the banana pairs perfectly with the rich, yummy taste of peanut butter, while the jam adds a touch of fruity goodness. For a healthier version, be sure to choose a jam that's low in sugar.

Here are three more versions of this fun sandwich that will make your kids giggle:

1. Chocolate Banana Dog: In place of peanut butter, spread a layer of chocolate hazelnut spread on the bun. Add the banana and top with a drizzle of honey for an extra sweet treat. That sounds like a dessert sandwich to me if I ever heard of one.

2. Marshmallow Banana Dog: Spread marshmallow fluff on the bun and place the banana inside. Top with mini chocolate chips for a s'mores-inspired twist. Maybe even crumble a bit of graham cracker on top. Another dessert option? What do you think?

3. Granola Banana Dog: Spread the bun with Greek yogurt, place the banana inside, and sprinkle with granola and a drizzle of honey. This version adds a crunchy texture and a hint of honey sweetness and would be a fun option for a weekend breakfast or brunch.

These variations are not only delicious but also offer a fun way to mix up snack time with a healthy and tasty option. Kids will love the playful creative presentations as well as all the different flavors, making the Peanut Butter Banana Dog (and each of the versions) a favorite go-to snack.

I wondered how many other people have made this sandwich and found another version of this sandwich from the Peanut Butter & Co. Sandwich Shop - and it has sprinkles! I'm not really a sprinkles fan, but I'm sure your kids would love it. (Link opens a new window).
